Up for sale is a matched PAIR KLV408a Klangfilm tube power amplifier “plug and play”.
Both are completely refurbished and they are in fully working condition. Both drive 15 Ohm loudspeakers! The output power is 20W each. These amplifiers were produced for 24 hour use. They are very robust. The performance is amazing, very low distortion for their age and very linear frequency range. Please look at the pictures! At one picture you can see the frequency range of the two amplifiers, black and red line.
Tubes:
2 x EL 34 (Valvo made by Mullard in Blackburn)
1 x ECC83 (Siemens)
1 x GZ 34 (Hoges, Mullard)
The amplifiers have been refurbished and modified by an expert. All caps beyond specification have been replaced with high quality ones (electrolytics, Philips LL-types). The decoupling capacitors have been replaced too (vintage PIO). All tubes are matched. Bias is set on original specification. You can plug and play!
The amplifiers are modified for HI FI use! They have gold plated RCA jacks for unbalanced input as cable connection. It is a high impedance input for 1V maximum modulation. Most common preamplifier can be connected directly. As speaker connection there are banana jacks. The distortion for both is less than 0,06% (1kHz, 20dBu output voltage) and they have a very linear frequency range. Please look at the pictures.
They can still be used as cinema amplifiers, too, than the amplification is much higher. And you can use the equalizer as well, but this way of driving the amps is only for professionals who are Klangfilm experts!!! In that case, the balanced (high impedance) input is for 10mV maximum modulation. The distortion for both is less than 0,22%. Then you have to use the original screw connection for input.
This is a matched pair. The pair is selected out of 30 of these amplifiers. More pairs KLV408a are available.
Caution: The amplifiers are adjusted for 230V AC power. But they can easily be modified to run at 125V, 110V. These sets are constructed as open chassis, high tensions are freed accessible!!! I advice to house them to reduce the risk of high voltage! To start up the system it is expedient to do that together with a technician!
